Tokyo Auto Salon 2004 - Tokyo, Japan

Scissor Doors Slice Through The Makuhari Messe

The 2004 Turbo Magazine Tokyo Auto Salon Tour hit the bull's eye yet again with 66 attendees, pleasant weather and the aura of the Auto Salon boosted to a fever pitch. The 2004 show will be remembered as the year of the scissor door. Never before has a single modification been so dominant at the Salon. The Mitsubishi EVO VIII and Nissan 350Z retained a strong tuner car presense, the Silvia S15 experienced a resurgence of sorts, the WRX fell off pace a tad and the Mazda RX-8 stepped up as the new "in" car.

It's no secret the hardcore tuning industry has been giving ground to the RV market, which consists of step wagons, micro and minivans, etc. But the hardcore parts are still there; they just take a bit of ferreting to find. Follow along on our Salon Safari as we hunt down the brightest and tightest of display vehicles and innovative high-tech parts.
